Transcribe audio without sending it to a server

Most transcription tools upload your recordings to the cloud. This one does not. The Audio Transcriber runs a speech recognition model directly in your browser using WebAssembly, so interviews, voice notes, podcasts, and meetings are processed entirely on your own machine. Load an MP3, WAV, or M4A file and export the result as plain text, SRT subtitles, or WebVTT captions.

What you can do

How to transcribe audio

  1. Select your audio file Click to choose or drag in an MP3, WAV, or M4A recording from your device.
  2. Start the transcription The speech model loads and processes the audio locally in your browser. Longer files take more time.
  3. Review the text Read through the generated transcript and make any quick edits you need.
  4. Export your result Download the transcript as TXT, or as SRT or VTT if you need timed subtitles.

Your audio stays on your device

Transcription happens entirely on your own machine. Your audio files are never uploaded to any server - the speech recognition model runs locally in your browser through WebAssembly. We collect only anonymous, aggregated usage analytics (such as which tool was used and whether it succeeded) to improve the product. Your recordings, transcripts, filenames, and content are never sent to us.

Verify it yourself: Open your browser DevTools → Network tab and run the tool: no request ever carries your file. Everything happens on your device.

FAQ

Is my audio uploaded to a server?
No. All processing runs locally in your browser. Your audio file never leaves your device.
What audio formats can I transcribe?
You can transcribe MP3, WAV, and M4A files. These cover most recordings from phones, voice recorders, and editing apps.
What output formats are supported?
You can export the transcript as plain text (TXT), SubRip subtitles (SRT), or WebVTT captions (VTT).
Is it free?
Yes. The Audio Transcriber is free to use with no account, no watermarks, and no time limits.
Why is a desktop browser recommended?
Speech recognition is computationally heavy. A desktop or laptop has more memory and processing power, so transcription is faster and more reliable than on a phone.
Does it work offline?
Once the page and the speech model have finished loading, transcription can run without an internet connection.
How accurate is the transcription?
Accuracy depends on audio quality, background noise, accents, and speaking pace. Clear recordings produce the best results, and you can edit the text before exporting.
